So, it's semi-official that TokyoPop's liscensed Tokyo Babylon and RG Veda. Now, I'm naturally very happy about this, as I love TB, and have heard good things about RG Veda and have been intrested in reading it some day.
However, I can already see some issues with TB. One is the name transliteration. I have the horrible feeling that they'll use the one CLAMP does, which is 'Seishiro', which has always looked really funny to me, and has always sort of annoyed me. A bigger issue is the honorifics. In TB, they're very important, especially with the 'Subaru-kun' bit, as it definately flows over to X. However, TokyoPop did leave them in in CLAMP School Detectives, and Petshop of Horrors, so I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. Something that's not a problem for me, as I own the pretty first edition set, but may be for other people, is which edition they'll release here. There's the older, seven-volume, first-edition set, which is either out of print or will be soon, and the smaller, newer, and not so pretty five-volume set.
Either way, I'll probably end up buying them anyway, even though I've already got it all in Japanese, because then I have a nice set, which can stay nice and safe at home, and another set which I can abuse, drag everywhere, and lend out to people without being overly paranoid (Yeah, I'm reeeeally protective of my manga *hugs it*). And of course, I'll grab RG Veda. Goodbye, paycheck... ^^
